Earth Friendly?... By that I mean we used our own homemade stuffing with stuff we'd normally throw in the bin. We didn't pay someone to design and sell their own fabric have it shipped to shops for us to go and buy. We made our own fabric design and printed it onto a scrap of material that we had at home.
We used a very simple stamp design, by cutting a circle in half and reversing the circle to create this effect. It was very simple to carve but so effective and pretty on the eye. For the top scrap of material I re-created an image of a rabbit sketch by carving very carefully with Blade 1 from ABIG.
I wish I'd have thought about their design sooner, in time for Easter sales. Still there's next year...

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I was so pleased that Louise Holgate won the giveaway prize of a custom stamp of her choice. When I saw the picture of what I had to carve, I melted at how cute and stunning it was. I knew it was going to look good as a print and it so does.

It took a little time to carve as it was pretty fiddly to get around all the branches, etc. but was well worth it.

Here's her facebook page to check out...
https://www.facebook.com/LouiseHolgatePhotography
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Before the stamps get sent out, I always check them to make sure they stamp correctly. A good stamp should stamp first time every time. Some times in workshops people will say, "I've still not learned how to stamp without getting the lines around the edges", etc. It's not you! it's the stamp. You can be a complete novice with my stamps and do it first time.

The finished carved stamp.

It was a lovely little group of ladies today who came to the workshop to learn how to carve rubber stamps.

I drew up a few easy to carve shapes and printed off a few for the ladies to trace and carve. All of the designs went down really well and some found them great to choose from. So I'll definitely be using this lesson again. Here are the sample pictures that I drew and took with me to share, they were all drawn with the idea that repeat printing would be used. You will see a lot of gift wrap out there with stars used in repeat printing styles.
I learned a lot too like maybe I should start even smaller as in what I teach. I think using tools like blades may be a jump a little too quickly. I think learning about the rubber and what it feels like under manipulation with different tools is more important than I thought. Perhaps patterned stamps for backgrounds on cards would be good.
went home with some gift wrap and their very own stamp that was mounted

I am very excited to have been chosen to try out Lou-Tonkin's jacket. I will be taking it for a test drive, washing, wearing it and finding out the staying power of her needle felted work within clothes. She will be branching out with her fab needle felting work into a new line of clothes and I get to help by test driving her jacket :)

So I will be sharing on my blog how I get on, I'll show photo's of the detail after washing and wearing.
But I think I might be on my own on this one.
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Anyhoo... Here's a t-shirt I made for my wee man from a simple aztec print stamp that I carved. I used a Versa Colour Ink to stamp with and then set it with an iron. I will wash it in a cool wash first to see how it comes out. Versa ink do make a fabric ink pad so look out for that if you want first time success. I read somewhere though that the usual versa colour lasts just as well with an iron set.

I love it and so does my eldest son, he would like one too as does hubby... Do they really or are they just being nice ;)

Here it is...
From a 200 year old converted
barn on our farm in the quaint village of Harrington, Northamptonshire,
Curiosity, our magnificent copper pot still works her magic.

She takes our farms' pure, natural spring water, grain spirit,
home-grown elderflower, plus ten other secret botanicals, and transforms
them into a fantastically smooth and aromatic dry gin.

Each batch is small, and every single bottle is carefully handcrafted by

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Three weeks ago we got 2 chickens, one called Peppa and the other Holly. What fun we have had watching them grow so much already. They were 10 weeks old when we got them. Who knew that a chicken would roll in the ground like a dog and come up for a stroke like a cat. They take themselves to bed every night around 8.30 and try to roost on a perch if we don't get them to bed quick enough. In fact one day Peppa actually told me off, she kept twirping up at me telling me to come in out of the dark and she got a little frantic that she wasn't tucked up, so cute!... yeah I know! a chicken? Cute? Lol!
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">when we first got them I have to admit I was a little scared that they may peck me to death or something silly, but no they weren't flappy or pecky at all. In fact they're kinda cuddly! I just want to pick them up and give them a squeeze but I don't think they'd be having any of that.

We got a hutch from the Tip Shop and paid £7.80 as that's all we had in change, he he. Took it home and gave it some improvements, a new run, new felt roof and a paint job oh and some posh picture framing trimmings around the top :) It looks like a pretty posh tree housey chicken coup. We're not quite finished yet, we'd like to build a run for when we're not there but that will all come with time. Luckily we're not away for some time yet.

Here are some photo's of the coup/hutch renovation :)
I think I'd like to sell them in a The Old Barn in Wadenhoe. They sell tea and coffee amongst other delicious things. It is a little garden centre too with a gift shop inside. Or do I sell them in Etsy and finally set up shop with them. I wish I could do both? Maybe I could if I were quick off the mark with purchases, taking the bought item out of where I'm selling it? Can it be done? What do you do?
boxing them but need to buy some thin hay to line the boxes with. I
think I will stamp the picture of the flower on the outside of the box.
I will show you the finished article once I've decided. I've been trying to work out the best presentation for my stamps as there's no where really to put a label. This way I could glue a little pretty information leaflet on the back or something?

Here are the stamps for now that I have carved, ready for boxing.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The fantastic company ABIG have come through and surprised me yet again with their kindness and willingness to supply me with their outstanding workmanship. Their blades are my favourite by far! I cannot recommend their equipment highly enough. My favourite blade being the No.1 for fine art work. So it look's like they are sending me 12 handles for teaching my new workshop on the 18th June at the Fuller House Craft Group and every fortnight after until I have got through their fantastically large group.
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I will be showing 12 students at a time how to create a very simple stamp that will have high impact on wrapping paper and tags. They will take home with them a new skill learned, a hand carved rubber stamp that's been mounted professionally onto a piece of season treated oak. Also at the end, they will have their very own bespoke wrapping stationary for special birthdays coming up.

On the search for party invite ideas, I googled High Tea images and found a chair that I could use for a stamp. It wasn't quite what I wanted though, as half of it was missing and I'd have to create the rest of it.

In the end, I'm not sure if 'Just a carver chair' would look like it had anything to do with Alice in Wonderland?

A beautiful take on the Mad Hatters tea party by Unknown.

See the chair at the far right? That's the chair I'd like on my invitations, but there's only half a chair. Also the chair won't really represent the tea party to anyone else, so I wanted to make it more obvious.

So I found a Mad Hatter's hat from the original drawings, I think. I down sized it and played around on Photoshop to fit it onto the top of the chair. Like this:

Next I needed to redraw the chair so that I could transfer a full image onto the rubber for carving. So I had to decide what the rest of the chair would look like.

I'm really looking forward to playing around with colours in the last step with the stamps when they are ready. <span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Ooops, I totally forgot about this entry but luckily did a lot of looking around when I first took part, so I knew that I would like to make a couple of stamps for a party invitation but not sure what.
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I really like the chequered background and thought about bringing it up to date with all the chevron patterns that are about lately. I was so set on that idea until I saw it on Pinterest, on an Alice in Wonderland invite. Honestly! you think you have come up with a unique idea but there are so many people around having the same 'light bulb' moments, it's hard not to loose interest. But in the end I thought I'll stick with the original chequered theme and make it dark. So I'm going for a warped chequered background (with a possible cheeky Cheshire cat grin to add on top of the checked background).
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The other difficult bit is I am only allowed two submissions. So I'll have to make a set of picture stamps in a box of it's own for the invite plus the warped chequered background.
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Ok I'm off to carve a warped back ground whilst I ponder about what else to put on the invite. I do like the idea of just a carvery chair that you would see sitting next to the tea party table. Maybe I might do that instead of lots of other stamps. That way the invite maker could add whatever they'd like. A tea pot, a drink me bottle etc... I will also make the warped background duck egg blue to bring it into the now. I think this would also take away from the darkness of the warped black background and make it a playful and fresh for all the picture stamps to go on top.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08934254304687394045noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3556031572088059310.post-56502410973892157062013-03-18T12:14:00.000-07:002013-03-25T12:44:22.308-07:00Creating a Fabric Stamp - Continuation 2*****I have finished the doily stamp ***** and I'm really pleased with how it prints. The holes that the screws were put into were sunken holes. This was to allow the screws to get through the thick block.
Once the handle was screwed on, it left behind big holes. This meant that the print wouldn't come out properly where you pushed down over them. So I cut some rubber to fit in the holes and 'voila!'

Then I stuck on the rubber with glass glue and did my first print.
The great thing about this huge stamp is that I can use it for so many things. I had a quick go at putting a few labels/brown tags together and stamping all 6 in one go. It came out like little vintage doily lookalikes on the tags and it looked pretty cool.

But more than labels I could use it for wrapping paper, greetings cards and even a wall paper stamp. It would look pretty ace on a piece of living room furniture and waxed on top. Hmmm, might try that when I re-do /up-cycle my unit in the front room. The stamp itself is 15cm square.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08934254304687394045noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3556031572088059310.post-45688201577776988702013-03-16T14:36:00.001-07:002013-03-16T14:36:30.379-07:00Girly Night In

After a lovely girly night in I have had time to reflect on the past couple of weeks. I spent the night chit chatting with Monika from Wool Stories (https://www.facebook.com/WoolStories?ref=ts&fref=ts), Lindsay Day from (https://www.facebook.com/evajeanie?ref=ts&fref=ts) and Michelle Bilson from Button it (http://michellebuttonit.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/its-good-to-talk.html)

We chatted about all sorts of things, craft things, current projects, selling on sites and facebook, post natal depression and mostly Monika's cake :) Yum yum...

But before I share and bare all about who I am and what eats away at me every day I just want you to know I'm ok and I'm a happy soul, most of the time. I want to share because what I'm about to tell you always comes with a dark stigma that people like me are a bit bonkers. Well I am but I like to think it's in a good way. I just want anyone who feels this way to know that there is more than what the doctors offer. People say when you are ready a teacher can be found. I totally believe this phrase and I hope that I could offer just one other sole comfort in that I believe one day I will feel better.

After a very stressful couple of weeks what with my parents moving away five hours up the road to Scotland, my anxiety going through the roof with well my own anxiety disorder about just about anything. Kids have illnesses, and time off school and it all leads to no crafting time, break downs, tears, tiredness and of course no stamp orders at all. Saying that I've had a couple of productive days, like I'm catching up in mind and orders.

We left last Thursday to help my parents move house and well we didn't do very much to help at all. Felt like spare parts that got in the way, especially with the kids running around and not really knowing what to un-pack and where. We spent some nice time with family members up there, Uncle Ian and Auntie Liz who cooked and looked after us for two nights and lovely it was too. Managed to get a visit from my cousin Craig with his good lady. He always makes me smile and I haven't seen him in the flesh since I was about 17 I think as I was learning to drive then. I'm 34 now.

On the way home we visited and stayed with my Auntie Deborah & Uncle Gary and I waffled on about stuff way too much like I always do! And of course we were visited by my lovely Nana who lives just around the corner whilst we stayed in Lincoln and it's always nice to get a big warm welcoming huggle from her. Uncle Gary cooked a mummysday breakfast, yummy fresh eggs (from Scotland) scrambled with smoked salmon, bagels and fresh ground coffee bought from Stokes coffee 'I think' from Lincoln, yum yum.

On the Monday I broke down and I think it was from a loss and being tired from all the journeying around. Mostly I just felt hopeless and helpless that Mum and Dad had gone. I suffer from anxiety disorders brought on by 'Who knows!' Life's ups and downs, challenges, losses and stresses. When I'm like it and in the thick of it I find it really hard to come through the other side or even think I'll feel normal ever again. And with Mum & Dad gone, my life line when times are tough were no longer around to call on. The doctors treat my anxiety like depression, same medication, same well more medication. I went down the 'Mind' route and CBT myself. I did go back to the doctors and well I was offered more medication. Beta blockers, diazepam, sertralene, hormone treatment. You name it! I've tried it, I'll give anything a go not to feel like this.

I suffer with panic attacks, monophobia (being on my own) Agoraphobia (don't want to go outside) and crowded places, driving on my own, but mostly it's night time on my own, looking after the house and my two little boys and two little dogs. I go like a startled deer and find myself in a locked frightened state and sometimes actually can't move. This is the first time I've written this down and it's a little (well a lot) weird sharing it, as you might/will judge!

I'm seeing a therapist now and so much is becoming very clear about why I'm like what I'm like and what I can do to not be like it, although it's taking some time and some mind altering thought processes. Mostly CBT, meditation & talking therapy.

I don't take anti-depressants anymore as it never really helped, it just numbed it for a while whilst I couldn't cope. I'd never say never though and if I was there again, I'd probably take it all over again.

I guess I'm saying all of this because, without my good friends and good guidance through MIND and books I would have thought I was going mad. I believe I would have got lost in the system and turned to something greater than diazepam and beta blockers and sertralene because I just wanted to stop the feelings. I didn't want to die but I didn't want to live either. and sometimes like this last week I'm right back there all over again 5 years later. My anxiety comes in waves and sometimes it's too scary for words and sometimes it's just a little bit of a palpy heart that will pass. Sometimes I'm actually bored! Well I've had one and it was AMAZING! Oh to be bored!

That's enough for now and for those of you waiting to see how the doily stamp cushion project is going to turn out. I've nearly finished it, the stamp that is, not the cushion :)

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Today I wanted to sell some stamps I'd made, so I made some repeat printing patterns from them and took some pics to share on facebook.
https://www.facebook.com/LittleStampStoreHere's some pictures.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I made a little video of how to work with repeat pattern stamps but then realised that the video camera didn't work, as it had run out of space. I got the first 10 seconds recorded... Doh!

It is really simple to use these, you just have to find the edge of the print and repeat. You then just keep going until you have the desired area covered.
I can't find it... I dusted it out but only made it worse, now there's about 5 white pieces of fluff instead of one, baaa... So I'm now off to the camera shop to ask for help. Very annoying. I don't want to miss taking photo's of this stamp as I really want to use it in a book I'm making. It's time lost on stamp making but time well spent I hope. Hopefully I'll come back with good news.

Well bad news, I'm back and it's in for repair :( I feel lost without it and depending on where the fluff culprit is it can be anywhere from £12 to £35... And it won't come back until Friday, I'm bored already. Well I better get on with some custom orders I suppose lol... I did get my material through for my doily stamp project though and they're gorgeous, so can't wait even more to get my camera back as I really want to log all the steps. This picture was taken with my phone, it's not come out too bad at all.
